What if we explored our notions of family by borrowing concepts from the science of Ecology? Rather than seeing the traits of family members as independent and which when added together constituted a family, we think of a family as an interdependent, interconnected system spanning generations, nuclear in some respects, extended in others.

There is a constant dance to maintain the equilibrium of the whole while also allowing for renewal and maturation. The opposing forces of change and stability happening simultaneously.
